A group of doctors who attended an “anti-vaccine” summit in Florida tested positive for COVID-19 or experienced symptoms days after the event, according to a report.
The Daily Beast reports the doctors fell ill after participating in the event earlier this month at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla., where alternative treatments for COVID-19 were discussed. “The Day the Earth Listened” event occurred on Nov. 6.
The event’s organizer, John Littell, told The Daily Beast seven doctors among the 800 to 900 participants tested positive for the coronavirus or developed symptoms within days of the conference.
Littell told the news outlet he didn’t consider the conference to be a superspreader event and said he believed those infected contracted the virus from their home states before arriving at the event.
“I think they had gotten it from New York or Michigan or wherever they were from,” he said. “It was really the people who flew in from other places.”
Among the doctors who contracted the virus was Bruce Boros, a 71-year-old cardiologist who advocated for the use of ivermectin as an effective treatment against COVID-19 during the event.
“I have been on ivermectin for 16 months, my wife and I,” Boros said at the event, according to The Daily Beast. “I have never felt healthier in my life.”
The outlet reports he fell ill with COVID-19 two days later.
Boros also reportedly said he was angry his 97-year-old father got the COVID-19 vaccine, saying he believed “he had been brainwashed.” Boros said his father passed away on the morning of the conference.
Littell reportedly said the doctors are being treated with ivermectin and noted “Bruce is doing well.”
Ivermectin is a drug used to kill parasites in animals and humans and has not been approved for use in treating COVID-19.
